Each for Equal – An Equal World is an Enabled World

I am all for celebrations: they give us the opportunity to regroup, highlight our achievements, and give credit where it’s due. Certain celebrations, however, are more worthy of our attention than others, because they bring important issues into sharp focus and prompt us to step up our efforts – International Women’s Day is one of them.

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

As the now-famous saying goes, “women’s rights are human rights.” That is to say, women are entitled to all of these rights. Women’s rights are the fundamental human rights that were enshrined by the United Nations for every human being on the planet nearly 70 years ago. These rights include the right to live free from violence, slavery, and discrimination; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair and equal wage.

Working with DTAP over the past year has given me one of the most important factors in the work/life balance : flexibility in the workplace. Having the flexibility to attend to family matters if necessary and the encouragement to come up with my own ideas and to provide input to the team is very important to me.  I feel valued and respected for what I bring to the company and I like that I have room to grow within the company. Being a resident physician working for DTAP, I get great satisfaction in being in a role where management trusts my decisions to provide better healthcare for my patients.

We can bridge the gender inequality gap by supporting women, investing in them and standing up for them. Excellence shouldn’t be distinguished between genders. As the world celebrates International women’s day, we recognise that an equal world is an enabled world.
