Shockwave Therapy For ED

ESWT is a non-invasive medical procedure that is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). During the procedure, a device is used to deliver low-intensity shock waves. These shockwaves stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and improve blood flow, which can help to improve erectile function.

The procedure usually takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. Before the procedure, the patient may be given local anesthesia to numb the area and reduce discomfort.

During the procedure, the device delivers shockwaves through the skin. The patient may feel a tingling or tapping sensation, but the procedure is generally not painful.

After the procedure, the patient can usually return to normal activities immediately. It is recommended that patients undergo a series of treatments, typically ranging from 6 to 12 sessions, to achieve the best results. The treatments are usually spaced out over several weeks.

Who Can Benefit From Shockwave Therapy?

ESWT for men’s health is primarily used to treat Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and Peyronie’s disease. Men who have ED may benefit from ESWT if they have not responded to other treatments such as oral medications or injections. ESWT can also help men with Peyronie’s disease, a condition that causes a curvature, by breaking down the scar tissue that causes the curvature.

How Many Sessions Will I need?

The number of sessions needed for Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) can vary depending on the individual’s specific needs and the severity of their condition. Typically, a course of ESWT for ED involves a series of treatment sessions over several weeks.

The exact number of sessions can vary, but most treatment plans involve between 6 and 12 sessions. These sessions are usually scheduled once or twice per week and typically last between 15 and 20 minutes.

During each ESWT session, low-intensity sound waves are delivered using a specialized wand. These sound waves stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and improve blood flow, which can lead to improved erectile function.

It’s important to note that results from ESWT for ED can vary from person to person, and some individuals may require more or fewer sessions than others. Additionally, ESWT may not be effective for all individuals with ED, and a health provider can help determine if it’s the right treatment option based on the individual’s specific needs and medical history.

The Recovery Process

ESWT has been shown to significantly reduce recovery time by up to 50%. Even in cases of severe injuries, recovery typically takes only 3-6 months, which is relatively fast compared to the potential lifelong impact of some soft tissue injuries that can worsen over time. Physical therapy is recommended as a follow-up treatment to ESWT, and it’s important for patients to maintain a healthy diet during the recovery period. A healthy diet is crucial to facilitate effective tissue repair. Once the injury has healed, it’s advisable to avoid excessive strain or pressure on the affected area.
