Vaginal dryness is a common problem that many women face at some point in their lives. However, very few tend to seek help. Vaginal dryness can occur in young to older women. It’s common after menopause, and it also can happen in the years leading up to menopause. Often, patients notice symptoms when they haven’t been sexually active for a long time. Then they are intimate with a partner and find that sex is painful.
You may be experiencing vaginal dryness if you:
You are at risk of vaginal dryness if:
After and around the time of menopause, your body makes less estrogen. Estrogen is a hormone that helps maintain the vagina’s lubrication, elasticity, and thickness. Low levels of estrogen can cause thinning, drying, and inflammation of vaginal walls. This is called vaginal atrophy.
Low estrogen and vaginal dryness can happen at other times. Estrogen levels can fall after childbirth, with breastfeeding, during cancer treatment, or with anti-estrogen drugs.
Then there are non-hormonal factors. Cold and allergy medications and some antidepressants can dry out vaginal tissue. Sjögren syndrome, an autoimmune condition that can cause a dry mouth and eyes, also can cause vaginal dryness.
Oftentimes, your doctor will prescribe you with an estrogen-based medication if your symptoms are associated with low estrogen. However, not every patient is a suitable candidate for hormonal therapy. Many patients are reluctant to use such estrogen formulations due to health concerns.
Also, younger patients with no evidence of low estrogen levels are generally not a suitable candidate for hormonal therapy.
Here’s where Vaginal Hyal Gel comes in.
Vaginal Hyal gel is a gel-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a thick, gooey, liquid that your body produces naturally. You can find it in various parts of your body including your eyes, skin, and joints. Unfortunately, as you age, your body produces less hyaluronic acid, which explains why it’s a primary ingredient in many anti-aging products.
Besides nourishing the skin, hyaluronic acid has been said to reduce vaginal dryness while keeping the microbiome and pH levels normal. Hyaluronic acid in the Vaginal Hyal Gel formulation provides immediate hydration in mucosa and liposomes to ensure long lasting hydration in the vaginal mucosa. This helps to reduce pain/discomfort during sexual intercourse and provides relief for the burning/itching sensation in the vagina.

Numerous research has been done to understand the benefits of hyaluronic acid for vaginal dryness. One such research was a randomized clinical control trial done in 2013 by Junya Chen and team to evaluate the efficacy and safety of hyaluronic acid vaginal gel to treat vaginal dryness compared with estrogen cream in postmenopausal women. 147 subjects were randomized and treated with either hyaluronic acid or estriol cream. The trial showed that both can improve the clinical symptoms of vaginal dryness without statistically significant difference between them.
Another important element found in this product is L-Arginine. L-Arginine is an essential amino acid that is known to increase sexual arousal. It is converted to nitric oxide (NO), which leads to increase in cGMP and in a series of events leads to blood vessels to relax and increase arterial blood supply to the genitals. Clinical trials done, showed women who took L-Arginine supplements generally reported to have a more satisfactory sexual experience.
Vaginal Hyal gel is different from a lubricant. It is to be used once every 3 days, regardless if you are sexually active or not. It has been reported that sexual arousal was most evident within 2 hours post application. It is always advisable to test any product first before use. You may apply a tiny amount to see if you are allergic to the product. The gel is then inserted directly into the vagina using an applicator. This gel can be used for long term with no adverse risks, as it is hormone free.
